At this year's Careers and Industry Day there are a whole host of experts delivering inspiring workshops on everything from Media Law and Copyright to Creature Performance and Storyboarding.  Below we give you the low-down on these industry professionals so you know who you need to speak to, to gain an insight into your chosen area of film.

Ashon’s conceptualisation of the website, Phundee , took place whilst in his last year of study on his Film course at Kingston University in 2007. Ashon felt the need for a platform to help independent and entry level artists attract funding so that a ‘Who You Know’ industry becomes more accessible with a transparent funding process.
Prior to setting up his online business, Ashon worked ten years within the Entertainment industry.


Media Law

Luke is a commercial contract specialist who, for the past sixteen years, has been working with the greatest names in the Entertainment Industry.
In the television world Luke has worked for the BBC, clearing the rights for the independent productions they purchased. He also worked for Walt Disney (Buena Vista International) drafting and negotiating international distribution agreements with international broadcasters for Disney programs.

Award winning filmmaker Phil Peel has worked on over 50 short films, screened at festivals all over the world. After leaving the BBC, he founded and developed the Film Course at Salisbury (now Wiltshire) College, before taking over as Course Leader in BA Film Production at the Arts University at Bournemouth.
He was one of only five English filmmakers to be supported by Creative England to attend the Talent Lab development programme at the 2013 Edinburgh International Film Festival. Apart from his work as a writer/director, Phil currently freelances as editor/colour grader in corporate, music, arts and drama.
Music Copyright and Licensing

Ivan Chandler is one of the UK’s leading music copyright experts. He is also a music supervisor, music licensing executive, musician, composer, music publisher, trainer in music copyright and a forensic musicologist.
Ivan has worked in the entertainment industry for over 35 years including holding executive positions at Elton John’s Rocket Music, Paramount Pictures and UK Music Division.
Ivan is the founder of Musicalities Limited, a music consultancy business with a diverse range of clients including Aardman Animations, Universal Music and Channel 4, through to numerous independent television & film companies across the UK, Europe and America.



Creature Performance

Tom is an actor and creature puppeteer. His career in creature puppetry began when he was cast as the heart position of Joey in the National Theatre’s production of Warhorse.

Warhorse led to bringing the Luggabeast to life on Star Wars: The Force awakens. Since then he has worked on five feature films, played a gorilla in a Bollywood film and faced off against Peter Capaldi’s time lord in the BBC’s Doctor Who.

Kevin is a freelance Sound Recordist, Mixer and Technician, working on everything from short films to reality TV. He started out in ITV, working for TVS Television, and was trained in all aspects of sound, including music recording, sound dubbing, Fisher boom operating, and drama production.
Additionally, opportunities have arisen over recent years which have allowed Kevin to write, light, shoot, direct and edit documentaries and drama.

Dens Macabre was founded by Special Makeup Effects Artist Jen Hayes in 2010. 
Bespoke theatrical teeth for film and media projects made to the highest quality using only techniques approved by and used in the film industry.



Neil is an award winning director whose intelligent, cinematic, and emotionally rich films have received widespread critical acclaim. His short film undertow was praised by The Guardian’s Film Critic Peter Bradshaw as having “polish, and inhabiting the short-film space with panache”.

In 2015 his debut feature film Containment received an extended UK theatrical release and attracted several 5* reviews. Sight & Sound wrote “The real power of Containment lies in Mcenery-West’s direction, which demonstrates a visual wisdom that’s truly rare in a first-time director.”

Please note: Neil will be introducing his film Containment at the end of the Indutry Day and not giving a particular workshop.


H20/Aerial Filming

Bryan Stanislas has been involved within the media and diving industries for well over 25 years and has also worked within SFX providing water and fire safety advice using his vast experience, including 15 years as a firefighter in the fire and rescue sectors.
He has captured images on, under or above the water environment from warm underwater stages and studios to the wilds of the North Sea, South Africa and various locations throughout the world. Budgets, logistics and safety feature heavily in Bryan's everyday roles from planning marine and underwater shoots through to travel and capturing images.



Marcus has worked in a wide range of software and creative industries over the last twenty years. He started out as an artist, getting involved in computer graphics in the late 80s, developing multimedia in the 90s for IBM and working in Computer Games and PC Magazine Publishing in the late 90s. He then moved on to helping with the setting-up and building of Internet Creative business at the end of the 90s. 

Marcus has been writing and creating comics, short stories, illustrating and storyboarding whilst developing technology businesses over the last ten years. He set-up Blue Donut Studios at the end of 2013 creating comics, animations, augmented reality, virtual reality and apps. Marcus has also worked on numerous TV ads and music videos including Joss Stone’s ‘The Love We Had’, which has racked up 5.2 million views on YouTube alone.
